Oil Portrait
Painting Course Level 2

A studio-based oil painting programme for those who have already begun working with portraiture and wish to deepen their practice.
At this level, the focus expands from the isolated portrait to the figure within space, exploring composition, atmosphere, and personal expression.
Light, colour, gesture, and narrative are approached with greater freedom and intention, within a structured and supportive studio environment.

Who is this course for?

 

  • Adults who have completed Oil Portrait Painting – Level 1 or have prior experience in figurative painting.

  • Painters interested in moving beyond likeness to explore presence, atmosphere, and expression.

  • Those seeking a structured studio setting with individual guidance, critique, and dedicated painting time.

 

Schedule, Location & Fees

  • Dates: 8 January – 26 March 2026

  • Sessions: 1 session per week

  • Time: 10:00 – 13:00

  • Location: Start with Art Studio, Manique, Cascais

  • Fee: €450 (12 sessions)

  • Payment plans available

Your Instructor

Marina Haroutounian studied in the United States and pursued postgraduate program in painting in Florence as a Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation scholar.

 

She also attended Ar.Co in Lisbon and has exhibited her work in Portugal and abroad, receiving honorable mentions at awards such as the Fidelidade Jovens Pintores Prize and the Vila Nova de Cerveira Biennial.

 

For eight years she worked as Director of Education at the Berardo Museum of Modern Art, developing programs that connected diverse audiences to art.

 

Alongside her personal painting practice, Marina has over 20 years of experience as an art educator in international schools, museums and in her own studio in Cascais.

 

Her teaching combines technical rigor with a deep commitment to helping students find their own artistic voice.
